About The Yellow Queen
Overview
The Yellow Queen is perhaps the most enduring figure in my writing, appearing in roughly half of the 250 short stories, novellas, and novels I’ve penned over the last 47 years. While she often takes the role of the main antagonist, she is more accurately described as the Goddess of Choice. She doesn't just block a protagonist's path; she forces them to define it.
The Manifestation
Across nearly five decades of stories, her appearance has remained hauntingly consistent:
- The Mask of Innocence: She manifests as an eight-year-old girl with pale skin.
- The Eyes of Choice: Her most defining feature is her large, luminous golden-yellow eyes—ancient, unblinking, and absolute.
- Sunlit Decay: She is almost always seen in a simple, ruffled yellow summer dress, often barefoot, standing as a contrast to the cosmic chaos she commands.
She is the goddess of choice and decisions, but she doesn't make the choice the person who is given the choice does, and all choices do not always go as plan. Although she looks like an eight-year-old girl with blondish yellow hair and yellow eyes, she is actually a cosmic horror that comes from the dawn of time and lives in region between the worlds called "The In-Between" She punishes those who happen to stumble upon her or seek her out. She does however have an emotional and an affectionate attachment to the main protagonist Fox Smith and has help him and friends out on many occasions.
