The court’s requirement that I use half of my bond to retain counsel—when that amount is insufficient—violates my rights under the Sixth Amendment (right to counsel), Fourteenth Amendment (equal protection and due process), and Eighth Amendment (excessive bail). I am being forced to choose between liberty and representation, which is a false and unconstitutional dilemma.
